Soling Worlds Underway

Soling World Championship - Soling Worlds Underway
BALATON, HUNGARY-(19-5-2003) The start was similar to the first race. It was very interesting, because most of the boats were on the windward side. The German boat, steered by Winkler, -who won this race-, the Slovenians, us, and a couple of boats more, could start in very clear wind at the leeward mark, and followed the left side of the course.
The refreshening breezes came from that side, so we should not pull too much, soon we got turned, and the ones, who followed us on the left side, could cross the others way with such an advantage, like the length of the starting line.
The first six boats separated from the majority and soon developed the leader group -already known, from the first race -. At the 1st position Winkler, 2nd Pitchugin, the 3rd were us.
At the second upwind section we had some problems, we moved up and down between the 3rd and the 6th position. The wind stopped there for a while. It was very ugly.

Károly Vezér: In the middle, the Austrian Auteried came up, so did the No. 304, they both left us there with a windstripe.

Balázs Gyenese: The downwind refreshed from the southern shore. Winkler and us went extremely close to the shore, so we could catch the Slovenian guy. Then we arrived on the 3rd place. As the wind refreshed from the south, so on the 3rd upwind section we pulled the left side again but the order haven’t changed. Although in the finishing section we succeeded once, to overtake Pichugin, we made a wrong decision so he could slip in front of us. It was a very close regatta. In the last downwind the first three leader were in 3 meters each.
